I can't reproduce this with new KDevelop 5 with Qt5. And looking at the code, I have no idea why it would segment fault when calling ::kill(pid, SIGINT);

Russell, could you try with the latest KDevelop 5.0.0 and if the bug still exists, upload a test project so that I can reproduce and debug with?
