You can temporary freeze Kdenlive in an apparently useless process using a color selector

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start kdenlive
2. Add chroma key effect to track
3. Use color key selector by pressing on the color field (not the ink drop icon)
4. Move mouse around a lot
5. Press left mouse button

Expected result:
1. Color currently under cursor is selected, color picker tool stops updating the color

Actual resutlt:
1. Color apparently picker keeps processing all the positions it as been at until it reaches the one at which you clicked. This can take many seconds depending on amount of movement before clicking.
