not really useful error message

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. add leaf encryption cert
2. ad intermediary issuer
3. try to encrypt

Actual Results:  
nothing is encrypted and misleading error displayed

Expected Results:  
a) encrypt or
b) say exactly what is missing

if I add the root, it still fails with <<File exists>>

so if I try to encrypt the attached png, I see

ls -lart docs/notFound.png*

==> at least say which file exists in which directory
