Sentry Crash Report:

Description Jeremy Whiting 2015-08-28 20:18:43 UTC
Konsole's appearance settings have a big colorful warning saying transparency won't work because desktop effects aren't enabled, yet transparency is clearly working. Maybe the code that detects desktop effects is old/broken ?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Right click in konsole and choose edit current profile
2. Click Appearance tab
3. See the warning yet transparency is clearly working in the current konsole window.

Actual Results:
Warning is shown

Expected Results:
Warning shouldn't be there as transparency is working

My machine is an Intel i7 with embedded graphics. Arch linux, with all of kde software built with kdesrc-build.

It works as expected here running the latest 15.08 (Kubuntu CI). As always you have to restart Konsole if you change the compositor.

@ Kurt: I think this problem was already solved with https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/128669/
The fix is not included in 16.08 though. Comes with next 16.08.1 in a week.

@ Jeremy: If you built Konsole with kdesrc-build, it should work though. Works on my Neon dev unstable but not Neon stable.

I committed that to 16.08 branch - the issue I notice now is that upon session restore, transparency doesn't work.
Comment 4 Roman Gilg 2016-08-31 16:12:34 UTC
The patch isn't listed in 16.08 tag though:
https://quickgit.kde.org/?p=konsole.git&a=log&h=468817123b56db6e2794191402032e28f6411691

So I assumed it ships with 16.08.1, or does it work differently?
Comment 5 Kurt Hindenburg 2016-09-01 00:35:44 UTC
they will tag .01 Tuesday

This is the 16.08 branch

this is fixed - using 362857 for the startup issue
