Unable to delete any category.  Followed the Krecipes Handbook on how to delete a category, but it does not work.  I highlight a category and hit the delete key.  The confirm dialog opens up and I select YES.  The confirm dialog closes and nothing happens.  The category is still there.

When you say category you mean the parent folder of a group of recipes?

Yes, the parent folders in the app, when viewing the basic tab under "Find/Edit Recipies".  You can select folders there for deletion, but nothing happens after you go through the steps, as described.
