Description Ancoron 2015-08-25 05:58:33 UTC
Since a reboot I found that custom global keyboard short cuts where not working at all (e.g. using <WIN> + <F1-4> to switch between the four Activities I regularly use.

I then wanted to check the system-settings only to find out in the "Background Services", that an error-box popped up saying "Unable to contact KDED."

My workstation usually runs 24/7 and I only reboot when really necessary. So during the last run there where several updates, which was from 2015-08-08 18:11 - 2015-08-23 13:01 UTC.

I then tried to start kded5 manually, which gave me a segmentation fault:

$ kded5

Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I've tried several times with different kded5rc configuration without any change.

A further result is that many parts of the system-settings cannot be used (e.g. power management, display settings, ...).

Reproducible: Always

Comment 3 Ancoron 2015-08-25 06:09:09 UTC
Version of package kded5: 5.12.0-0ubuntu1~ubuntu15.04~ppa1
Comment 4 Ancoron 2015-09-26 20:30:01 UTC
I "solved" the problem on my own by removing *all* configuration and caching data from my home directory, including but not limited to:

.cache
.config
.dbus
.gconf
.gnome2
.gnome2_private
.kde
.local

So, afterwards, I got back a working kded and with it a working plasma. However, of course, I lost all my personal settings.
