Clipboard history stays forever (up to max # of configured entries). It would be nice if there was an option - i.e. checkbox+time - that would automatically purge entries older than time seconds if that option is active in settings.

Could you please explain why you need such feature and what it should provide you? What issue do you see with old clipboard entries still being around?
