If running maintenance menu, there are several sub-menus to choose. 

Some of these offer the option _not_ to treat all items, which should save time. 

If choosing the option rebuild thumbnails, this option does not work at all. 

If starting again, digiKam starts from the very beginning, always indicating _all_ items and, apparently _not_ to finish properly.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. start maintenance menu
2. select BUILD PREVIEW-PICTURES and NOT  treating existing entries
3. run it

Actual Results:  
... and wait for two days. At minimum.....

Expected Results:  
Should work reliably.

This is a major feature, as it is so unusable, that most people won't use it ans take advantage of this feature at all.

digiKam 4.12.0 is out.
