Description ramon 2001-11-15 21:04:45 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kdesktop
Version: KDE 2.2.1
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: i386 suse 7.1 and red hat 7.2 xfree 4.1 athlon 750 slot a asus k7a mb768 MB of memory MS Intelimouse optical 5 button usb mouse conected to the ps2 port

Erratic mouse/window events. Using the MSIntelimouse (5 buttons usb plugged into the ps2 port with the included addapter) and lifting the mouse of the table or going of the edge of the table or sometimes without the bottom of the mouse leaving the table often makes kde unusable. Windows start opening all over the place and the mouse keeps going to the lower left corner before I am able to drag the pointer to the middle of the monitor. I am able to reproduce this under suse 7.1 (upgraded) and red hat 7.2. It does not happen under gnome.
It did not happen before I installed the rpms for wfree 4.1 and kde 2.2.1 in Suse.
With red hat it was a clean instalation of 7.2.
It happens wheather I am logged in as root or a user.

Then it's a XFree4.1 bug.
Maybe triggered by KDE if it doesn't happen in other environments but for sure
KDE itself doesn't control the position of the mouse pointer on the screen.
I suggest to report to XFree (and to try the latest XFree first maybe).

I have the same problem. I use a non-optical Compaq/Logitech ps/2 wheelmouse
but i also had this problem with my old (non-optical) logitech cordless mouse.
It was trhe reason i bought a new one.
I'm using SuSE 8.1 but also had this problem under SuSE 8.0.

I did look in the bug-system from Xfree but apparently everyone keeps blaming
everyone else. KDE says it's X related, X says it's kernel related and their
they say it's application related.

I'm only experiencing this problem when using kde, not when i use another
windowmanager..

I don't really care who's to blame but maybe you guys could talk with the
parties included (kde, X, kernel) and work together to find the cause and fix
it ?

thx

I am having the same problem, only it happens with my optical mouse after
switching away from and back to my machine on my KVM.

The original summary for this bug was longer than 255 characters, and so it was truncated when Bugzilla was upgraded. The original summary was:
