Package: kde
Version: KDE 2.2.1
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

I would like a system wide completion setting.

For instance I can't imagine anything but the Automatic which is what Konqueror is set too. But it only affects Konqueror's URL box. Everytime I'm filling out forms online it correctly suggests things(like the e-mail box above) which I think is really neat but it always does it in pop-up. I don't like popups because it seems it'd take as many keystrokes to finish typing in the info than going through the popup. It seems I'd have to manually change the setting in a hundred locations to make it act like I'd want it too.

I don't know if this should be a KControl setting or if it should just be if you change it in one place it changes it in all(I guess some people may want the URL box to act differently than other input fields).

My vote is put a KControl setting that lets you choose the default/global completion setting. When you change it manually in a particular input field it'll only affect that input field.

I agree that text-completion should be able to be set centrally, much like icon size can. I imagine that it can be implemented in KControl in a similar manner.

Hello,

Any news regarding this wish?

Thanks.

Hi,

kdelibs (version 4 and earlier) is no longer maintained since a few years.

KDE Frameworks 5 or 6 might already have implemented this wish.

If not, please re-open against the matching framework if feasible or against the application that shows the issue.

We then can still dispatch it to the right Bugzilla product or component.

Greetings
