When I connect a second monitor using HDMI or DVI I have my primary 1920x1080 desktop on the laptop, and a second larger or smaller one (depending which monitor I connect) adjacent to that on the second device. When I then disconnect the second monitor, my primary desktop becomes 1920+the second monitor's width, and it's a panning one, so the viewport is 1920px wide and when I move the mouse to the right screen edge it pans the desktop to the right. On disconnecting the second monitor, I should be left with one non-panning desktop of the same resolution as the monitor: 1920x1080.

nvidia-drivers-340.76 if that matters.

can you include the output of

xrandr -q 

both before and after you unplug?

Apologies for the late reply. The panning desktop issue is solved plasma-5.4.0. I still experience the issue of windows going below the panel or being maximized with their bottom edge high above the panel, but that was a separate issue.

There seems to be many bugs tracking the same issue. I happened to find bug #310168 first and I added xrandr output there already (with some additional information too). Still happening as of plasma 5.5.3 and kf5 5.18
