Muon Update Manager icon on standard launcher-bar starts Muon Update Manager normally. Muon Update Manager locates and displays updates normally.

PROBLEM:
Muon Update Manager authorization dialogue missing. instead "Install now" gets "no authorization" warning with a red "X". I used "sudo apt-get upgrade muon" after two reboots accomplished nothing. Noted 14 MB of new files added. Nojoy! Also note that kde Ubuntu 14.04 KXStudio standard launcher-bar where Muon Update Manager is located now has icons missing: "set cpu speed" and "audio controls".  I also used sudo apt-get to install current updates. Reboot does nothing for the problem. 

Two background items: (1) I had installed the Gnome desktop a few weeks ago, but decided to reinstall the KDE desktop and delete the Gnome desktop. No problems. Restored all widgets, etc., quite nicely. About a day ago, an extra widget for "set cpu speed" appeared (showing two vice one). (2) Today, on second restart after upgrade of muon, Jack Status was "off", so was the Alsa bridge and MIDI. I returned them to activity. Have not retried reboot yet again.

1. Normal KDE Desktop for Ubuntu 14.04 KXStudio
2. "click" icon widget lower left launcher-bar for muon (must have updates pending)
3. When updates shoe in update manager window, "click" Install now"
4. Receive notice "no authorization" warning with a red "X"

Looks odd, never seen this problem, and the KDE 4 version is the most tested one so far.
Is there any interesting debug output if you run it from the console?

Alex,

I went several days w/o the bug. Then it did it again. Now the
download was hung although the Firefox browser was running well and
the link was good. I tried to kill the download with a kill -9 xxxx.
It would not kill control of resources. A command line (root) apt-get
upgrade complained that the resources were unavailable, in use by
another application. I then re-booted and reran the apt-get and it said:

While this was going on, Muon update notified me that I had 4 updates.

I started the update via the icon on my panel, and muon informed me I
had not updated in over a week. It requested I check for updates. I
did. It then presented me with the original problem exactly as noted
in the bug report.

At this date, I have been using Synaptic Package Manager and Software Updater. After about a month of this, the Muon updater started to function correctly, and has remained functional ever since. I did not get dumps from the problem because that option did not open to me since Muon was handling an exception vice a crash. The problem resolved with continuing updates, which I attributed to debugging on issues not specific to my own. Regardless, as of now, Muon works correctly.

Fixed itself, must have been a problem elsewhere in the stack
