Whenever opening up dolphin it says "The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly" without any further messages and does not display any contents in folders. Restarting dolphin does not help.

Thanks for the bug report. The kio_file process, which is apparently not running correctly, is part of the KIO library, so I'll reassign.
