Make sure it's not your system tray. Do you have the system tray widget in the panel? Is the icon perhaps just hidden in the overflow popup? There are no known problems with the tray icon. I'm sure it is NOT in system tray, I got tray widget in panel and icon is NOT hidden. I'm using KDE and Konversation many years and in 1.5.1 close mean terminate aplication (even minimalize option is set) instead of minimalize in system tray. Have a nice day!
