I've not seen that nor heard comments from anyone else of that effect. To narrow this down could you try: - xterm from within Plasma - a real terminal (control +f2 and log in) to see if the issue still occurs. With xterm the problem still occurs, while logging out from KDE and logging in as root (so that X won't start automatically) the problem seems to disappear, as I've already said that I found it only after installing KDE. Thanks, that narrows it down. So it's not the KDE apps that are at fault, but there is a daemon on KDE startup that restores your keyboard settings. That does include Keyboard Repeat Delay and Keyboard Repeat Delay. Can you open system settings -> input devices -> keyboard and reset them. Mine are at 660ms and 25.00 repeat/s respectively. Maybe you accidentally changed them? Maybe they got corrupted? Maybe we're applying them "wrong"? That's the next part to figure out. And now we come to the real point: the keyboard repeat settings don't work! They didn't work when I first installed KDE as well as now. Basically, even if I set Turn Off in the Keyboard Repeat section and press Apply, the system would let me write things of this soooooooooooooooooooooort by just holding a key. System Settings window snapshot
Since no one has already given me an answer since I last posted, I'd like to add two things: not only the keyboard settings in the System Settings window is fault, but also the mouse settings: even though I change the modality for opening files and folders from single-click to double-click, files always open with single-click.
Also, notice the appearence of the System Settings window from the attachment, which shows the main menu of System Settings with white stripes over the grey bakground. However, these stripes don't show up in no other window, neither inside the menu entries of System Settings, nor in any other application.
