Description Mayeul C. 2015-01-28 00:00:02 UTC
A feature that KDM lacked, and that sddm is capable of.
An option is needed to change the default keyboard layout, and eventually to allow selection of more layouts.

Also : a kcm_sddm subcategory is needed.

Reproducible: Always

While SDDM is recommended by KDE developers for Plasma 5, they did not develop it. Please file feature requests directly to SDDM developers via https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues

Sorry, found the repository.

David, I created the systemsettings/kcm_sddm component and set you as default assignee. If this should be changed, just add a comment.

Sounds sensible.

I might end up putting it as a combo in the greeter

because
1) The code is a bit easier that way due to what SDDM does
2) you might plug in a different keyboard whilst your computer is turned off so need to log in to change the settings

Someone Created an issue on SDDM's Github Bugtracker here : https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/482 after I mentioned it here : http://www.linuxveda.com/2015/09/02/phoronix-offers-criticism-kde-software-kde-deals/#comment-2234650654

I was under the impression (after reading the comments) that this wasn't an issue on SDDM's side, thus not requiring to open a ticket there. Was I mistaken?
Comment 6 Martin 2015-10-20 22:30:33 UTC
It now looks like this feature will also be implemented in the basic SDDM theme.

The issue on SDDM side (https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/482) was closed at November 2015. Is this still an issue then?

This is still an issue. While the default theme of sddm now has a keyboard layout chooser since November 2015, the breeze theme, which is developed as part of plasma and not of sddm, still lacks one in plasma workspace 5.8.3.

At the moment, using Neon user edition 5.8.4, the Layout selector only appears when start typing and a second layout different from en_US on system settings >> keyboard >> layouts.

Seems that the layouts are not being added to SDDM.

Using for example, I needed to use localectl set-x11-keymap --no-convert pt , to add the European portugues keyboard layout to SDDM.

NOTE: The always showing US layout (although the correct one is set) is still ongoing. Manually selecting US and then, the second layout, workarounds the problem until logout/reboot.
