In plasma 4 you do

 * Alt+F2
 * Type 2+2
 * Press enter
 * You get a 4 in the line edit you can copy and paste somewhere

In plasma 5 you do 
 * Alt+F2
 * Type 2+2
 * Press enter
 * Get nothing :/

I'd really like a way to be able to use the results of the calculator without having to copy them manually

I get 4 here.

Can you confirm you have the calculator runner enabled.

Also you've put this as milou, then your instructions refer to krunner.

Milou is like krunner, except it's an applet. Krunner is the one in another process invoked on alt+f2. Can you confirm which one you mean?

Yes, i do have the calculator enabled (at least it is checked if i press the button on the left of the line edit).

I guess it's krunner then (the thing that appears on alt+f2), there's no krunner component though

Note do get a 4 in the "results" list, but not back into the line area so i can't copy it which is what i want to do (maybe the "get nothing" was not a good idea)

KRunner: Update the query string when notified by the view

The Milou.ResultView now notifies us when it thinks we should update the
queryString. The main use of this is the calculator runner. On executing
an action on that runner, it is expected that the text field be updated.
