Description Lukas ThyWalls 2014-11-27 15:55:46 UTC
This is more a feature than a bug, but this is too bugged, ugly and useless in some case.

I have KDE with a resolution 1280x800, and when i put desktop folder view with grid alignment, i have a lot of blank space where i can't put iconed-elements. I will attach two screenshots with the same 4 icons in the corners of the allowed zone to put icons with this configuration, with alignment to the left and to the right, but there is a blank and ugly useless space in the bottom too.

To prove this could be better, i will attach another two screenshots with the same alignment to right and left, but before that i put an extra icon in the opposite side of the alignment, proving that there could be another column of icons if it were well calculated.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. In desktop folder view, with 1280x800 resolution and grid alignment, there is a lot of space useless to put icons.

Actual Results:
Is impossible to put icons in some spaces (but is possible to put icons there in the opposite alignment)

Expected Results:
Put icons and fits to the desktop as well is possible.

There should be a dynamic calculation of the space between icons or a personalized one in configuration, better icon sizes (48 pixels icons are the 5 of 6 sizes in configuration, from small to big, 1 to 3 are ridiculous small), or set the number of row/columns in grid alignment to calculate the size of icons and space between icons.

I tested this in KUbuntu 14.10, KDE 4.14.1
