"Layer" > "New" > "Import Layer..." and selecting an SVG file ends with the error message
"
Could not open /some/path/to/file.svg.
Reason: Could not create the output document.
"

Selecting a PNG file succeeds, no error there.

Hm, this even fails in 2.8. The best way to add an svg to Krita would, I guess, be to use the vector image shape, that gives the best rendering, but it's not editable. I wonder where the svg->odg->krita chain breaks.
