Equalx crashes ? and does not appear is the panel. KDE 4.13.3, Kubuntu 14.04. See screen capture.
Also this message appears when running from the tty

Install on Ubuntu
EqualX is available only for Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy) and Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty).
You need to add EqualX repository ppa:q-quark/equalx
1. Method via terminal
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:q-quark/equalx sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install equalx 

needs texlive-base
sudo apt-get install  texlive-base
