I think this has already much improved in the current git build, you could check that out quite easily as a Gentoo user. I don't have that hardware configuration available to test, though... currently the kde overlay -9999 (git master) version does not compile, because of a sandbox vialoation (seems that the amarok tests try to create a folder in /usr/share/apps/amarok/scriptconsole. I will try to build it manually later. I can provide the infrastructure for testing for a trustable developer. You can get a samba share over a openvpn connection.
