Since I switched to 4.13, search is apparently handled by baloo. I removed baloo because of high CPU usage and because I regard it a security risk (deleted mail may remain in the index). Since then the quick search bar returns no results. In earlier versions you could search in the headers without any desktop search installed. Please return this behavior if baloo is not available.

Reproducible: Always

no it's wrong it returned result from subject directly.
And it works as it in 4.13.
Kmail works with baloo so if you remove it too bad for you.

I don't understand; what is wrong? I think it searched in the subject/sender directly (without an index); that's what I was refering to.

Do you mean the "direct" search should work? It doesn't work for me, even if I select Subject below the search bar.

Well, that's when I'm switching mail clients I guess. Showing security liabilities and CPU hogs down users' throats is not a good strategy, and I'm not the only one telling you that.

Also, even full text search shouldn't really require indexing. I just grepped through 100 MB of text (that's about 10000 e-mails without the attachments) and it took half a second.
