Sentry Crash Report:

Description Adam Porter 2014-04-24 06:22:10 UTC
I'm currently using KDE 4.11.6, but it's not in the version list. This bug has been around for a long time, though.

The bug is simply that, often, if I launch ksysguard while the system is under load, especially I/O load (e.g. while launching other apps that cause lots of disk seeking), after ksysguard finishes loading, some of the sensors on my worksheet show no data or "Error". If I then either open the display's properties and click OK, or restart ksysguard, the sensors work.

I'm guessing that it's some kind of timeout that expires if a sensor or some library takes too long to respond. I've seen similar behavior with kioslaves (e.g. if I launch Dolphin while the system is under heavy I/O load, sometimes the directory listing will fail to load, but then immediately works if I refresh it).

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open ksysguard and configure a worksheet full of displays and sensors.
2. Close ksysguard and flush the disk cache.
3. Launch a program that takes a long time to load and causes lots of seeking, such as a browser with lots of addons. (Or run several find processes in the background, something like that.)
4. Launch ksysguard while the other program is loading.
5. Wait for ksysguard to finish loading.
Actual Results:
Several sensors may display values of 0 or "Error."

Expected Results:
All sensors should work normally.

If a display is reconfigured, it usually causes the sensors to work. Or if ksysguard is closed and restarted, the sensors usually work.
