Description Robin Atwood 2014-04-21 12:55:31 UTC
After I upgraded KDE to version 4.13.0 Kontact now segfaults on starting. KDEPIM is masked to stay at 4.4.11. Here is the backtrace:
Application: Kontact (kontact), signal: Segmentation fault
Using host libthread_db library "/lib64/libthread_db.so.1".
[KCrash Handler]
#5 0x0000003047797756 in QObject::connect(QObject const*, char const*, QObject const*, char const*, Qt::ConnectionType) () from /usr/lib64/qt4/libQtCore.so.4
#6  0x00007f744de2c4d6 in KontactInterface::Plugin::part() () from /usr/lib64/libkontactinterface.so.4
#7  0x00007f744e3d72b0 in Kontact::MainWindow::selectPlugin(KontactInterface::Plugin*) () from /usr/lib64/libkontactprivate.so.4
#8  0x00007f744e3d65f4 in Kontact::MainWindow::loadSettings() () from /usr/lib64/libkontactprivate.so.4
#9  0x00007f744e3dc0af in Kontact::MainWindow::initObject() () from /usr/lib64/libkontactprivate.so.4

#11 0x00000000004044c4 in _start ()

The various component apps (KMail, KAddressbook, etc) still work correctly. I then recompiled kontact-4.4.11.1-r1 and now the Kontact Introduction page appears but I get a similar segfault as soon as I select a plugin to show:

Application: Kontact (kontact), signal: Segmentation fault

Same module segfaulting but called from a different place.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install KDE 4.13.0
2. Install KDEPIM 4.4.11.1
3. Start Kontact

kontact (4.12.5) on KDE Platform 4.13.1 using Qt 4.8.5

- What I was doing when the application crashed:

Update to KDE 4.13.1 from 4.12, start kontact, get crash practically instantly (as in, I can't tell any time lapse). Starting kmail independently works fine.

"kontact (4.12.5) on KDE Platform 4.13.1 using Qt 4.8.5"
why don't use kontact 4.13.1 on kde 4.13.1 ?
Comment 3 Robin Atwood 2014-05-15 06:26:03 UTC
Because after KDE 4.4 KDEPIM became unusable and everything I have read indicates nothing has changed.
Comment 4 Laurent Montel 2014-05-15 06:35:27 UTC
Ok so it's not supported and we never fixed it.
so I close as wontfix
