All move operations should have a common modifier to move along X or Y axis. At the moment we have.

Move tool snaps to axis with CTRL
Transform tool uses SHIFT
Shape handling Move uses either CTRL or ALT
Node move: CTRL
Assistant move: No snap, it should have.

Ideally all should work with one key. for example SHIFT

Ack... Though this is something that's been on the todo list since 2006 or so... I think their may be a calligracommon bug for this, too, but I cannot find it.

This is fixed in 3.0, thanks to Michael Abrahams work.
