Sentry Crash Report:

Description kacey 2014-02-28 08:08:17 UTC
Compressed Targa (.tga) and normal Bitmap (.bmp) image files do not generate thumbnails.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Try to preview a compressed .tga or .bmp file.
Actual Results:
Shows file icon.

Expected Results:
Expected to show image preview/thumbnail for icon.

With .tga images, if the image is opened with GIMP (that's only thing I've tested and found), a thumbnail will be generated untill the file is saved over.

Thanks for the bug report. Your report contains two different issues, not of which is a Dolphin one (note that Dolphin does not generate the previews itself).

1. .bmp previews do not work. I cannot confirm the problem here. Thumbnailing BMP files works just fine.

2. .tga previews do not work. I just created such a file with GIMP, and I also don't get a preview either. This is probably because no KDE thumbnailer for this format is installed and enabled on my system. I don't know if such a thumbnailer is available somewhere.

I'll reasssign the report to kio/thumbnail for the .bmp problem. Things you might want to try yourself to investigate this further would be

(a) Verify that all preview plugins are enabled in the Dolphin settings.

(b) Check if previews are generated for smaller .bmp files.

Sorry for marking it wrong, I'm not that greatly familiar in depth with all of this. I'm simply filling out a bug report as was suggested from the linuxquestions.org forums.

Here's 3 files I've created and tested with.

test_uncompressed is the only one which that will show a thumbnail.

BMP and uncompressed TGA show fine here. The compressed TGA does not show.
