When using kbibtex and trying to perform a web search for any term (with any engine) behind an http proxy, the search fails with the following message:

Searching "Google Scholar" failed with error message:
Operation canceled
---

In the example, the search engine used was "Google Scholar". One message dialog is opened simultaneously for every search engine selected in the "Engines" tab. When launching kbibtex from a terminal and performing a web search, the following string is returned (in the terminal):

kbibtex(13228) WebSearchAbstract::handleErrors: Search using "Google Scholar" failed (HTTP code 0 "" )
---

The proxy settings are correctly configured in the Proxy KCM though "System Settings", and other network applications work fine (konqueror, kget, etc). Aditionaly, performing the same search (same engine) in Tellico, works fine and all query results are returned.

Version 0.4.1 has been superseded by the release of 0.5. This newer version evaluates KDE's proxy settings correctly and should allow you to access Google Scholar. Please test and confirm.

Version 0.5 has not entered Debian yet (neither sid nor testing), but as soon as it does I'll confirm you if the problem persists or is resolved.

I guess you can file a bug for Debian to get an update package into sid or testing (and eventually into backport). Bastien ROUCARIÈS <roucaries.bastien+debian@gmail.com> is the current maintainer for Debian's KBibTeX package.

This bug refers to an old version of KBibTeX. The bug has been most certainly fixed long since then, but that was never confirmed by the original reporter.
