- What I was doing when the application crashed:
A mail had been sitting in my outbox, apparently because I had not noticed the authentication request. I cancelled the send from the progress popup in the lower right, and then used the "send queued messages" command. I entered my PW in the new dialogue that popped up, the message was sent OK, and then I saw the other password dialogue. After entering my PW in there, the mail send handler crashed.

2 things that strike me: 
- existing pw dialogues should be reused or closed if the operation that spawned them is aborted
- I had sent an email through the same server moments before. Even when not storing passwords in a wallet, why not keep them in memory (this was at least the case for imap servers in the previous Kmail version I used, from KDE 4.8.5).
