Description Roman Inflianskas 2014-01-19 17:25:11 UTC
Dolphin executes several convert operations at once, they overload processor and hd, system hangs.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Do not repeat at home!
1. Select multiple image files (O(number of processor kernels)).
2. Open context menu.
3. Select: Actions -> Convert To -> PNG.
4. Look how system dies.
Actual Results:
Mouse is not responding, it's impossible to switch to different console with Ctrl+Alt+FX. Actually I had to use magic keys to remount and reboot.

Expected Results:
Normal system functioning: slow converting without processor and hd overload OR message "To much files to process, use Gwenview for batch processing" OR batch processing dialog.

How many files did you try it with? I tried converting 70 files. The system slowed down for a while but everything was responding( mouse, ctrl+tab to switch applications etc.)
Tested on Kubuntu with KDE 4.12

45 tif files (0.3 MiB each).
Comment 3 Frank Reininghaus 2014-01-19 22:24:02 UTC
It seems that the file that provides the "Convert To" action is imageconverter.desktop in konq-plugins/imagerotation in the kde-baseapps repository (note that most of the actions in the context menu are unrelated to Dolphin - any applications can add actions to the menu).

I don't know if konq-plugins has a 'product' at bugs.kde.org, and I'm not sure if the bug is in the desktop file, which tells the host application to execute

convert %f "`echo %f | perl -pe 's/\\.[^.]+$//'`.png"

or somewhere else. I'll reassign to "kde" and hope that someone knows what to do with this report.
