When I try to update the standard Mageia 3 installation , I can specify that I want the system to check for updates and from that point on it only says "waiting for service to start" and that remains forever the situation. System runs smoothly , apart from the system software update (as far as I can tell right now)

Please report to the bug tracker of your distribution. If this bug is about software maintained by KDE developers, they know better which component to file the bug against.
