Bug 327872

Summary: When I click to open an unmounted device I do not get the authentication dialogue where I would enter the root pasword, thus the mount fails.

Sentry Crash Report:

Description Matthew 2013-11-20 16:53:34 UTC
This problem has started after an update to Kernel and other components happened today 20th November 2013.

Can not mount devices through dolphine, when I select a device to mount, I just get an error instead of the usual request to authenticate the operation.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Log on to KDE session
2.try to open a device that isn't already mounted
3.
Actual Results:
Device doesn't mount, instead an error about a problem mounting device appears
" An error occurred while accessing 'DEVICENAME here', the system responded: An unspecified error has occurred: Not authorized to perform operation"

Expected Results:
Should be asked to authenticate and then the device mounts.

This problem has started after an update to Kernel and other components happened today 20th November 2013.

This loss of the authentication request dialogue box seems to effect installing programs too, as when installing anything where authentication would be asked, the installation failes as I can't authenticate having not been asked to enter the password.

I also saw a message about my keyring having not unlocked properly at login, though I don't actively use the keyring as far as I am aware.

Also noticed all the Leave options don't work under KDE at times, and I have to use the terminal and shutdown command to shutdown the computer

Thanks for the bug report. Handling devices (including mounting them) is handled by the Solid library from kdelibs, and not by Dolphin itself. But if I understand you correctly, the mount failure is only one of several problems that have appeared recently, so I'll reassign this report to the general product "KDE" and hope that someone else knows how to handle your report (I'm not quite sure though that this really is a KDE bug because you said that the problems appeared after a kernel update - it could be that this is a problem which is specific to your distribution, or your system).

This bug is reported on libsolid which is the kdelibs4 version of the solid library. It is now in maintenance mode. If you think it should still be fixed in the KDE Frameworks 5 version of solid please move it to or report a bug on frameworks-solid.
