*** Bug 58926 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I would like to see a simple text input field in kmenu, this should have the focus by default and appear like a normal entry. Text entered in the filed will filter all entries which do not match "*[text]*". On Debian for example, the menu gets very unhandy with many programms installed. *** Bug 92988 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Re Comment #2: That would be pretty cool. As an alternative, you can already open applications:/ in Konqueror and use Tools->Find File to search, which will tell you where an application is in the menu structure and let you launch it. That's a nice idea to search in applications:/ SUSE 10.0 has this, with kde 3.4.x - i guess it won't be too difficult to get it in 3.5??? would be awesome... The SUSE KDE team is readying a new kind of K Menu called Kickoff for openSUSE Linux 10.2. Just like their GNOME slab got into GNOME's mainstream code, I hope Kickoff also gets into KDE's mainstream code. See http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/2283 works in kickoff well, I don't think this works now, as kickoff is NOT in KDE 4 nor part of a default KDE 3 release. Saying something works in some third-party app isn't really a solution. Suse had a patch for the normal KDE menu to add searching, but it was never merged. Pity, I liked it. Anyway, with all the changes going in KDE 4, esp in the Strigi/Nepomuk area, I find it very hard to believe we won't have search in our menu, so closing this is not bad - this is or will soon be fixed in trunk. Still, the fact kickoff happens to have a search function is NOT a good reason to close this bug... yes - true - it's an alternative but not generic With the release of kickoff in kde4 should this be closed? yes already in OpenSUSE 10.3 KDE 3.5.9 @Ferdinand: It has been in SUSE for quite some time. But it's a SUSE-specific patch, and does not ship with the default KDE which is what this bug requested. Users of other distros, if you will see https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/57738 have had to *ask* for it because it was not there in that distro. But of course this bug can be closed considering KDE 4. |
