Sentry Crash Report:
Attachments: Snapshot of attempt to add contact, with mouse cursor over address book drop down list selection

Description andy_90254 2013-11-02 03:28:59 UTC
I have created a new "personal" address book through File->New->Add Address Book.
The book fails to show up when I attempt to add a contact, therefore I'm unable to add a contact.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create new address book
2. Attempt to add new contact to newly created address book
3.
Actual Results:
Unable to add new contact. Address book fails to "drop down" from menu. There is no address book to select.

Expected Results:
I would expect a drop down menu with the address book name in it, so that I can add a new contact.

Andy, is this a failed attempt to report bug 327255?
Comment 3 andy_90254 2013-11-18 03:29:08 UTC
My issue was concerning the fact that the address books did not show up when I created them.  However, once I shut down the application, on restart all the address books I had previously created suddenly appeared.

I find that this behavior is in a variety of applications.  For example, I tried to add chrome to one of my virtual desktops several times.  I rarely logout or shutdown the server as I constantly have work in progress and I don't want to lose my place.

Well, the desktop crashed due to an unrelated cause (bug 327737 and/or 325383) and when it restarted - I had 4 chrome icons on my desktop.  I get similar behavior with KNotes and/or Kontact, Kalarm and that's all I can think of at the moment.  I create things and they don't always show up when I create them.

Note that the crash is probably not related to this issue, it merely brought the missing icons to light on restart - which is unlikely related to the address books not appearing.  However the behavior of things not getting created but apparently being queued or stored somewhere, does seem to have a common thread of some kind - or at least seems that way.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kaddressbook (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
