Currently the chat plasmoid cannot be resized, so for longer conversations (or those with longer messages) you have to switch to the full text-ui sooner or later. Resizeability would make it suitable even for longer conversations with more text

I'd say that it's fine to fallback to text-ui for longer conversation. My idea was to take advantage of that possibility rather than trying to make 2 views that catch up to the other.

Dear user, unfortunately Telepathy is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
