"Limit selection by language" contains a list of something misleading. I tried to find German standard keyboard but the first dropdown contains only "German, Swiss" which is not the correct one. Near the end of the list there's also "ger" (why not German?) and there's the layout I was looking for.

So the misleading part is having "German, Swiss" and "ger". In fact I feel like the "Limit selection by language" makes no sense at all since the "Layout" list itself (with "Any language" chosen in the first dropdown) has pretty good and easily searchable list.

My suggestion is simple: remove "Limit selection by language" box entirely.

Please try to update your xkeyboard-config package which contains keyboard/layout descriptions (mine is 2.9.3) or verify that the files provided by it are correct.
In my case if I select German lanuage I see 5 layouts:
Belgium, English (US), German, German (Austria), German (Switzerland)

No luck. I have xkeyboard-config 2.10.1-1 (https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/xkeyboard-config) but the "Limit selection by language" has "German, Swiss" as one of the options and "ger" as another.

Sorry I didn't read your report right, if the language is reprepsented by the code that means you don't have iso-codes package installed (mine is at version 3.43). It provides the langauge names and if it's missing you'll see 3-letter language iso codes instead.

The language filter may not help if you're using German in Germany but may be quite helpful if you're trying to find Gernam layout that's adjutested for Begluim etc.

It looks like I have that installed (iso-codes 3.44-1)

For example I have Polish, Portuguese, Russian but also alb, chi, cze. So it looks like only some languages are missing something.

This is fixed with the redesign in https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/merge_requests/2342.

The search functionality will find all layouts and variants that contains the search text, and always display descriptive names
