Hi, 
Upon opening the editor window everything still looks fine. However most of the tools are not functional anymore, e.g. saturation, color balance, black/white, etc 
The mouse pointer gets busy and the progress bar (left lower edge)  remains at 0%. Operation can be aborted. 
Failure can be repeated and persist with several picture.

The mistake appeared after upgrading from 2.8 to 3.3 using the kubuntu beta repositories.

Not reproducible here. Sound like

Sound like  a packaging problem from your distro.

Since 5.2.0, all image editor plugins have been included as well in digiKam core. There is no more run time plugins to load. So, this problem will no t reproducible.
