As an old Pidgin fan (from before kopete :-) i used to mark certain contacts OTR - off the record, to be able to have conversations just that: off the record. Now with:
KDE Telepathy Contact List
Version 0.6.3
Using KDE Development Platform 4.11.60
I can't (and i searched a lot) find a way to add encryption to my chat. I am not religious to whether it will be OTR or XMPP, but anything to add reasonable discretion :-)
