(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: noatun
Version: unknown (using KDE 2.2.0 )
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: Red Hat Linux 7.1.93
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-96)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.3-12
OS/Compiler notes:

I request Noatun developers to implement VCD and other Video based support into Noatun we don't want aktion instead I would love an all-in-one media player for KDE. ZZplayer has died and xine.sourceforge.net shows very nice improvement but I wonder can't we have ZZplayer or Xine's feature implemented in Noatun?

I wish this because I want a consistent looking application in MY KDE :)

We try what we can.

almost 4 years have passed and you've not implemented VCD, DVD support in noatun! and why did you closed this bug? it was never fulfilled! I still can't play vcd/dvd/streaming audio with noatun :(

Noatun is a wonderful application but you neglect it, and it seems that noatun is a dead corpse :(.

Could you be kind to have Noatun in KDE 4.x and I'm surprised why you've not used the great plugins in noatun and extended them to have mplayer and xine support (throught plugin).

I feel very empty and sad, and I'm really upset by noatun's non-progress :((. Please improve noatun, it is a wonderful and useful application. Please don't kill it by ignoring it!

Noatun if implemented with these features will be the Media Player for KDE 4.x

1. AudioCD/VCD/DVD playback
2. Mplayer and xine plugin
3. streaming audio plugin (like kmplayer) using mplayer and/or xine plugin (embedded in konqueror too)

4. Default polished (skin, plugin,etc.)

Please, please don't kill noatun!!! :(

I agree with the last poster!

Though Noatun is great program for music and such it is really lacking in the video department. The fact that KDE is incapable of playing DVDs with the base packages (kdemultimedia) is a major blow against it's usefulness as a desktop.

Xine and Mplayer both have the ability to handle DVDs with no difficulty at all. Of course I don't expect KDE to bundle legally questionable decrypters (DVDCSS) as these should be left to the individual users and distros to install.

GNOME has had good DVD support in Totem for ages through it's older Xine and now GStreamer backend. I heard stories a while ago that KDE4 will use GStreamer, is this true and will Noatun have DVD playback support? Seems like a shame to wait until KDE4 is out though.

Ah well, Thanks for Noatun.

Two years ago at Nové Hrady, Czech Republic, I attempted to add DVD support via Xine, however, Xine's API is poorly documented, designed and just plain annoying.

I'd really like to, but I can't quite yet. Hopefully I'll get this for KDE 4.1, or maybe even 4.0, but probably not given personal life.

noatun has not been part of the KDE 4 release and is no longer maintained.

KDE now offers Dragon as a video player and JuK as a music player. Additionally, other popular KDE players have been ported to KDE 4, such as Amarok or Kaffeine.

If this issue is still applicable to KDE 4 applications, please add a comment or file a new report.
