When I click upon a folder’s name, I expect to be able to rename the folder.  This is how it works in Finder and in Explorer and it is quite convenient.  Is this one-click technology patented so that KDE cannot use it?  Or am I just a spoiled kid?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Click upon a folder’s name once.

Actual Results:  
  1. Dolphin opens the folder.

Expected Results:  
  1. Let Dolphin rename the file in place.

If at all, it only makes sense in icon view.

Maybe I am also a "spoiled kid", but the other way around, because I'm seriously annoyed every time I sit in front of a Windows computer and I trigger a "rename" accidentally when I click the wrong spot. And I know that I'm not the only one who feels like that.

Unless you can provide evidence that there is a huge demand for this (to my knowledge, it hasn't been reported as a wish yet, even though people report almost anything you could think of), I am very much against implementing the Windows behavior.

You might want to discuss this at the "Brainstorm" section of the KDE forum, which is much more suitable than bugs.kde.org for finding out if implementing a certain feature makes sense or not from the user's point of view.

We have all needed information -> setting to CONFIRMED (even though I also disagree that this should be the default behavior).

Seems already implemented as of plasma 6
