Description naraesk 2013-07-19 14:31:05 UTC
I tried to use a 2nd monitor via VGA but the vga port was disabled and so it didn't worked. I used KScreen (it comes along with Fedora 19) wie systemsettings. The problem was, that the kscreen service was not running.

So from my point of view it would nice when KScreen automatically starts the service or displays a warning, that the service is not runnig. Otherwise you have the kscreen gui but it doesn't work und you don't know why.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Disable KScreen Service
2. Use KScreen
Actual Results:
You can use the GUI but using a 2nd monitor does not work, no hints are displayed.

Expected Results:
The KScreen Service should be started OR a warning should be displayed, that the service is not running.

The problem was in kded (kdelibs), since it was not loading newly added kded's until 4.11 (a305e57fe2278563b641414a484cf19015fa1c41)

Now if you install kscreen (or any other software with a kded) it will get autoloaded in case it is configured to do so.

Also, the KCM should work regardless of if the daemon is loaded or not, the only thing is that KScreen won't remember your settings.
