Description 20120808_bugs.kde.org 2013-07-09 22:35:33 UTC
Accounts now lists not only equity, liability, asset, and so on but also categories: income and expense.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
It was not always like this.
Actual Results:
Accounts shows categories

Expected Results:
Accounts should not show categories (expense and income listed under main tab categories)

I am under the impress that that part of my kmy file has become corrupt. Tools/consistency check reports that the data is consistent.

I recently started working on two different kmy files - sometimes open at the same time via two different instances of kmymoney.

Clicking with the right mouse button on say 'equity' shows the 'account options' menu. Right mouse clicking expense (being shown under the accounts tab) shows the category options. That is, kmymoney still treats the categories as categories (they are all still listed under main tab categories as well).

For most implementations of double-entry accounting, there are Income and Expense accounts. These accounts can be considered categories when creating a transaction. That is actually an incorrect approximation, but it is close and I will let accountants correct me...

From a user experience standpoint, this may be confusing and could justify an option to not show some types of accounts based on a setting.

Actually this behavior is controlled by the following kmymoney option 'Show categories in the accounts list view' in this section http://kmymoney2.sourceforge.net/kde4/online-manual/details.settings.html#details.settings.general.filter

I see now that the manual does not list it but it's there so it should be added to the manual. The most we can do for this report is to update the manual.

Sorry for the double post, I had some problems with b.k.o responding.

Thanks for the quick reply. And right you are. Obviously I checked that option and thus the program was behaving accordingly.

Which status option is 'resolved | user error'? :P

Feel free to reopen to track the update to the manual.

I did look under the main 'view' menu for an option to hide categories from the accounts list and did so while the accounts list was being shown.
