Description MichalG 2013-07-04 12:23:07 UTC
I have some problems with configuring express keys in my Wacom Intuos 4 tablet for GIMP 2.8.4. Take a look at screenshot above.
You can see there that I set some convenient shortcuts to faster work in GIMP, for example:
pressing tablet keys "4" do "redo" and "5" - "Undo", pressing "6" and "7" tablet keys make GIMP to do gradual zoom in/out while turning down/up the ring in the middle causes fast zoom.
And finally tablet keys "8" mimics pressing Ctrl which means fast getting color info from pixel.
All in all this is great but I'm having trouble because varying brush size (normal keys is "[" and "]") does not work at all. I set tablet keys "2" and "3" to do this but it isn't working. What wrong with it? What's up? :(
I use GIMP v2.8.4 on Linux Mint 14 (KDE 64-bit) with Wacom configuration app for KDE desktop environment v2.0 by Jörg Ehrichs. To sum up I'm not sure whether it is a bug in GIMP or this driver. :( Anybody knows solution???

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
No action when configuring brackets ( "[" and "]") as fast buttons to switch size of brush

Expected Results:
Fast switching the size of brush while painting

I remember this problem.

I tried this on my box with my tablet again and it seems the error lies within the xsetwacom or wacom kernel driver.

Usually it "should work" via
xsetwacom set "Wacom Intuos 4" Button 1 "key +bracketleft"
xsetwacom set "Wacom Intuos 4" Button 2 "key +bracketright"

On my setup it refuses to send the [ and ] instead I get 8 and 9 as output (german keyboard where I have to type right alt + 8 to get the [ )

So currently there is nothing I could do about this :(

Possible workarount:
change shortcuts in gimp from [ and ] to something else
in gimp: Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts
Decrease Value 2
Increase Value 2

Tested with PTK-640 (00B9)
GIMP 2.10 from flatpak
Current wacomtablet from git
xf86-input-wacom-0.36.0
Kenrel 4.16.7

Mapping buttons to [ and ] seems to work fine, however buttons send only a single click so you need to press them multiple times to see any noticable effect. However I use russian keyboard so I don't need to press any extra keys to get square brackets.

I've tried setting the key to Shift+[ to get { and it still works. Setting Alt+F4 combination works too. I'll close it for now since this bug is four years old. Feel free to comment & reopen if it's still somehow relevant and happens.
