KUBUNTU 13.04. @ Asus x51rl
running old laptop as secondary computer, display is gone.
the only linux working well ever are some versions of knoppix.
any other not working at all, or with complicated install: installing with other external monitor.
If you use a "plug&play" monitor, that is recogniseable for linux, no matter.
if you use a old monitor, that needs manual config, you're in trouble. 
older versions of ubuntu and kubuntu were runnig though.
in last version of kubuntu before current (1 month?) I tried to accomplish other screen solutions, and it crashed. therefore deleted default monitor program. system was the unable to detect monitor, could run with other monitor only. tried to fix problem by installing kgamma from options menu in grub. then it was gone totally. 
saved data, formatted hdd.
now, 13.04. 
installed in old pattern. chose suitable screen solution, elected "75Hz" instead of automatic and plugged the other monitor again. that old one needs 50Hz minimum. on next boot, after displaying grub, screen stayed dark. 
my question:
why is a option displayed, if one cannot execute it? If the right-down button is NOT meant for config AND save, then a second button that does so is missing!
