Description Andreas Sturmlechner 2013-06-28 06:43:40 UTC
Since beta1, there is a delay in plasma desktop startup. All I see after the splash screen has vanished is an unpleasant black background for a few seconds - then kwallet appears, and after that comes the plasma panel, background etc.

This happens all the time and also in a non-polluted new user environment.

I am on latest kernel, mesa and intel userspace drivers.

Reproducible: Always

Forgot to add that it is the same in 4.10.90.

screencast

screencast trying to show what's happening. unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of frame skipping or sth like that - it is playing much too fast, depending on cpu load.

until 4.11, the splash screen always neatly faded into the plasma desktop.
Comment 3 Philip Muškovac 2013-06-30 12:41:35 UTC
This happens with the kubuntu 4.10.90 packages as well. Ksplash goes by very fast and quits into a black screen. A few seconds later plasma shows up.

@Philip, Andreas -> 83d301880e78a3aa43e0aedd8f40abb2a506f1ff (can't confirm 100%, but after that commit i noticed this behaviour)
Easy to test a revert though ;-)
Comment 5 Hrvoje Senjan 2013-06-30 12:52:07 UTC
I can confirm now.
@David, any idea about this one?
Comment 6 Andreas Sturmlechner 2013-06-30 14:05:55 UTC
Yes, fixed after revert.
Comment 7 Andreas Sturmlechner 2013-07-16 22:14:44 UTC

Comment 8 Andreas Sturmlechner 2013-07-27 09:05:32 UTC

any reason to have that in Plasma for KDE SC 4?
Comment 10 Andreas Sturmlechner 2013-08-15 07:54:50 UTC
Still present in 4.11.0 :)
Comment 11 George Labuschagne 2013-08-15 19:33:42 UTC
Also effected by it and using openSuSE 12.3 64 bit with KDE 4.11.0 repos :)

I can confirm issue reported here (and that the proposed fix in reviewboard #112073 seems to fix it).
Comment 14 Andreas Sturmlechner 2013-08-15 19:55:56 UTC
Yes, I've basically using that patch since 4.10.90 without any trouble.
Comment 15 Andreas Sturmlechner 2013-08-15 19:57:53 UTC
ah, sorry, that was the revert. I'll test your patch as well.
Comment 16 Markus 2013-08-17 13:25:32 UTC
The same for me with the current build from neon ppa on Kubuntu. But my desktop keeps black, the panel shows up shortly and disappears. I have to use Alt+F2 to start applications.
