Sometimes after startup or after few hours the desktop icons becomes invisible. I can create a new folder with the context menu, but this icon is invisible too. During this problem i cannot make a rectangle with the mouse on the desktop (i have attached a picture, if somebody don't know what i mean). My layout in the desktop settings is "Folder View". I can solve this problem by change the layout to another and back. Or i can change the resolution of the display or restart the system.
I have no graphic driver installed.

OS: openSuse 12.3 KDE
Hardware: Notebook Acer Aspire 7745G, Intel Core i7-740QM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850

I have not much information, but maybe anybody can help :-)

The same problem occurs quite frequently on my system, approximately on every second boot: The desktop icons (folder layout) are invisible and I cannot draw a selection rectangle. There is a context menu, and I can fix the issue by switching to a different desktop layout and back, or by restarting the plasma desktop (kquitapp plasma-desktop; plasma-desktop).

The problem started after replacing my old dual-core laptop with a fast 8-core desktop PC, so I suspect it is a race condition where one component is initialized before another one it requires. There are many warnings in .xsession-errors, but none which are obviously related to the issue.

System Information:
 - Fedora 20, x86-64
 - KDE 4.13.3
 - Intel i7-4770
 - nvidia GTX-760

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5.
