Sentry Crash Report:

Description Xavier Guerrin 2013-05-26 17:01:34 UTC
This bug report is part of my experiments with KDE Development Platform 4.10.2 (latest stable from the GUI installer) using a 4 vCPUs VirtualBox VM running MS Windows XP Pro version 2002 SP3.
These experiments mainly aim at trying Kate, Konqueror and the SFTP KIO/slave under Windows so that working with Unix/Linux machines from a Windows workstation stops being so painful.

Launching Konqueror, entering sftp://user@hostname immediately changes it to sftp://user@hostname/path/to/home/directory and lists the files as expected; however:
  * symlinks owner and groups are shown as numeric values instead of user and group names
  * some names are suffixed with garbage characters: http://edony.tuxfamily.org/~xav/img/kde-windows-konqueror-sftp-listing.png
  * the tested directory was containing a "Téléchargements" directory, i.e. a directory which filename contains non-ASCII, ISO-8859-15 characters; it was displayed correctly but upon trying to enter it, Konqueror stated that "The file or folder sftp://user@hostname/path/to/home/directory/Téléchargements" does not exist.
  * Also, it seems that handling a file opening operation through the standard Windows application selection dialog keeps only the path part of the URL: right click on "filename" > Open with > choose kate => "The file /path/to/home/directory/filename could not be loaded, as it was not possible to read from it. Check if you have access to this file." -- not sure it can even be fixed...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch Konqueror
2. Type sftp://your_username@some_remote_unix_machine in the address bar
3. Check the displayed listing

The issue concerning the characters happened to me since forever under linux too, while EasyTag, Nautilus and other GTK applications handled the files and folders - showing a notice related to "weird characters" in their names.

Hello again,

Following update to KDE 4.10-3, the garbage characters disappeared.
However, I noticed the "Up" button remains disabled when browsing Windows local filesystems.
