Mockup of the idea
Thanks for the idea. First of all, this isn't really a Dolphin issue - the KUrlNavigator class is provided by kdelibs. We can obviously not drop the current way the "editable" mode works. It behaves like a plain line edit in the sense that clicking anywhere in the URL will just take the cursor to that position, and I'm pretty sure that many people rely on that behaviour (at least I do). So to implement your idea, we would have to add a third operation mode. It would take a huge effort to implement, possibly confuse people (how would we implement switching between three different modes in a clean way?) and provide (at least IMHO) rather little value, so I would say that it's extremely unlikely that anyone will start working on this anytime soon. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 167575 *** I think this bug can be closed due to being the current Dolphin behavior. *** Bug 167575 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I guess you're right! It's not so much that there's now a single mixed mode, but you can make the button mode editable really easily, and that does seem to resolve the *spirit* of this request, yes. |
You can't click on address divisions ("/") while in edit mode and get the dropdown from the "not edit" mode. Reproducible: Always Actual Results: The expected in an editable field. Expected Results: Clicking on a / would make a dropdown list of the "siblings" folders to appear so you don't need to go one folder up and select that other folder or having to go to "not edit" mode and click the > to make the list appear. It would be something like: folder "> button" folder "> button" folder [...] Every "folder" would be editable by clicking on it. Every "> button" would make the dropdown list appear.
