This bug affects me as well. I just updated my Kubuntu 12.10 to the latest KDE from the backports ppa (version 4.10.1) and I no longer have the icons in the pager. It turns out, the icons *are* shown if you make the pager bigger. Still, used to work with small desktop thumbnails as well; does not now. Thanks for the tip. Indeed increasing the panel size does make the icons show up again. However as I'm using two desktop rows I have to more than double my current panel size in order to get the icons back - I won't do that. Used to work fine before so I also think this is a bug. *** Bug 316850 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 318892 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** For me, increasing the widget size (not by increasing the panel, but by creating a new widget on the dashboard) does *not* fix this bug. Screenshot here: http://i.imgur.com/31Q3EYe.jpg Not fixed in 10.2 icons are shown if a desktop thumbnail is large enough to show the icon. Shouldn't this be considered a regression and therefore not yet resolved? It used to work before, even when the thumbnail size was smaller. Even ignoring how things used to be, I think if the user chooses the "display icons" option, there should always be an icon, no matter how small the thumbnail is. I find the minimum size limit unnecessary, especially the current limit which seems to require a rather large bar. As we can see at least some users see this as a problem. This definitely used to work for me in a previous version. I agree that it's a regression. In addition, as Mitko suggests, it used to work well. With a relatively small panel, the icons displayed perfectly well. There doesn't seem to be a reason to restrict the minimum size, as they were perfectly displayed at that size. Martin Gräßlin, is it possible to reopen this bug? As stated, previous versions of KDE had this working perfectly fine with smaller panels. It seems that this is not "worksforme" since it doesn't work for all cases. Ok, this bug actually go closed. For the record -- reproducible with 4.10.5 Yep, it seems like we are almost unanimous that it's a regression. dE, Mitko, Konstantin Molchanov and myself seem to think so. Martin Gräßlin closed it, but his comment appears to support the fact that there *is* a bug? If we don't hear from him, then I guess we just open a new bug? I filed a new more precise bug 323885 that also includes a Solution. Luckily you can use it to fix the problem immediately on your local installations. You should probably also comment in that other thread once you've tried the solution. Hopefully with enough people reporting success they will fix this in the next release. Mitko: thanks for that. And thanks for filing the new bug. Also, very good idea to word it correctly, now we know what it affects precisely. |
