When plasma crashes and the crash reporting assistant comes up, it says that the backtrace information is not useful, and it says I need to install debug symbols to improve it. so when I click that, a window comes up saying looking for debug packages, then it goes away, and nothing has changed. It still says to install the debug symbols, and they are never installed.

The "install debug symbols" functionality is implemented by the distribution packagers, not us. You should report this bug to them instead. Thanks.

But the crash reporting assistant is itself a kde application?
