Sentry Crash Report:

Description Pascal d'Hermilly 2013-01-22 12:35:45 UTC
Just tried to do some chat with a friend.
When I doubleclick the contact to chat I get a plasma notification:
  org.freedesktop.Telepathy.error.NotAvailable: Handler no longer available.

Reproducible: Always

Check you have ktp-text-ui installed.

Try everything here: http://community.kde.org/Real-Time_Communication_and_Collaboration/Troubleshooting#Nothing_happens_when_I_try_and_start_a_chat_with_someone_from_the_contact_list and report back.

Btw. which distro are you using? They might have broken packages.

As a side note, MSN is going to retire pretty soon [1], then it will stop working completely with KTp.

Comment 3 Pascal d'Hermilly 2013-01-22 14:09:12 UTC
Using kubuntu packages
There is no ktp-text-ui in my repos. I installed libktpchat0 but that didn't change anything.

I just tried with my google talk account. I get same error message.
Comment 4 David Edmundson 2013-01-22 14:13:53 UTC
It's called: kde-telepathy-text-ui

in Kubuntu
Comment 5 Pascal d'Hermilly 2013-01-22 14:27:48 UTC
I installed kde-telepathy kde-telepathy-minimal kde-telepathy-text-ui plasma-widget-telepathy-chat
I still get the same error though
Comment 6 Martin Klapetek 2013-01-22 15:32:24 UTC
Try logging out and back in.
Comment 7 Pascal d'Hermilly 2013-01-22 15:58:49 UTC
After logout/login of KDE it works :-)
So it is a dependency issue with Kubuntus packages?
Missing kde-telepathy-text-ui.
Comment 8 Martin Klapetek 2013-01-22 16:00:45 UTC
Quite possibly. Though if you install kde-telepathy, I'm pretty sure it will install all correctly.

Still packages should depend on themselves (or at least on kde-telepathy package) to get everything. This, however, is not something we can do ourselves (but we can nudge the right people).
Comment 9 Jonathan Riddell 2013-01-25 13:54:21 UTC
In Kubuntu the package kde-telepathy depends on kde-telepathy-minimal which depends on kde-telepathy-text-ui. So it's actually quite hard not to have kde-telepathy-text-ui installed.
Comment 10 Pascal d'Hermilly 2013-01-25 14:13:36 UTC
@jonathan
true, but the package kde-telepathy-contact-list (ktp-contactlist) which advertises itself in the menu as KDE IM does not depend kde-telepathy.
The point is that kde-telepathy-text-ui is not installed but kde-telepathy-contact-list is.

I don't recall installing anything before reporting a bug here. I just used the KDE IM program in the menu.
